Project description
LocalLift is a community-driven platform designed to empower small businesses through mentorship, digital training, and peer support. The platform addresses the skills gap and digital divide faced by entrepreneurs, fostering community engagement and long-term business growth.
Timeline
Developed and tested within 6 weeks, leveraging comprehensive user research and iterative design to create an impactful platform.
Background
Situation: Small business owners often struggle with digital adoption and marketing strategies, leading to competitive disadvantages and limited growth. The lack of targeted mentorship and community support further exacerbates these challenges.
Task: Our goal was to design a user-centric platform that bridges the mentorship gap, empowers entrepreneurs with actionable resources, and fosters collaborative community involvement.
Process
User Research & Insights
Our approach was user-centered, combining ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, and semi-structured interviews to capture small business owners' authentic experiences and challenges.
Ethnographic Research
Objective: To understand how small business owners navigate daily operations and manage challenges related to digital tools and mentorship.
Methods:
Workplace Observations: Conducted observations to identify common pain points in business operations and digital tool usage.
Mentorship Sessions: Observed mentor-mentee interactions to assess guidance quality and alignment with entrepreneurial needs.
Contextual Inquiry: Engaged in semi-structured interviews to delve deeper into motivations, challenges, and expectations from a mentorship program.
Key Findings:
Entrepreneurs struggled to navigate digital marketing tools and lacked personalized guidance.
Mentees valued practical, real-world advice over generic resources.
Building a community-driven support system was crucial for sustained engagement.
User Persona Development
Created user personas to represent small business owners and mentors' diverse backgrounds and needs.
Personas were based on insights gathered from user interviews and contextual observations.
Journey Mapping
Visualized the user journey to identify critical touchpoints where support and guidance were most needed.
Mapped out pain points related to digital adoption, community building, and mentorship accessibility.
