Description

Designing Emotionally Intelligent Wellness
Mental health apps are often impersonal and generic. NeuroThrive AI reimagines support by blending AI-powered personalization, safe community spaces, and accessible expert advice, creating a compassionate experience that adapts to each user’s emotional needs.

Project Details
  • Identified user needs through in-depth interviews and competitive analysis

  • Mapped emotional needs to design features using empathy-driven frameworks

  • Prototyped an app with personalized wellness plans, anonymous community feeds, and expert support access

Process

Research First, Empathy Always
Using a mixed-method research approach, I explored user challenges with existing mental health apps and validated core concepts through rigorous concept testing and usability sessions.

  • Conducted concept testing with 6 diverse participants

  • Created structured interview guides with scenario-based walkthroughs

  • Used affinity mapping to identify key pain points: lack of personalization, AI mistrust, social isolation, and inaccessible expert care

  • Synthesized insights into feature refinements, such as AI explainability, anonymous support groups, and affordable therapy formats

Solution

A Hybrid Wellness Ecosystem
The solution combines AI, community, and expert guidance to offer a multi-tiered, emotionally safe, and trustworthy wellness journey.

  • AI-Powered Recommendations with explainability & nudge customization

  • Community Feed: Invite-only, anonymous groups with “Encourage” buttons instead of likes

  • Expert Support: Group therapy, live Q&As, and expert-validated self-help paths

  • Tone Design: Calming microcopy, supportive visuals, and reflective journaling prompts

Results

Validated by Users, Refined by Insight
Feedback from usability testing showed strong emotional resonance and trust in the product vision, with specific areas of refinement that shaped the final iteration.

  • 5/5 users completed core tasks successfully

  • Avg. satisfaction score: 4.4/5

  • Participants described the app as “human,” “safe,” and “more meaningful than existing wellness apps”

  • Insights led to added features like dark mode, undo journal, and custom AI settings
